i am sara ahmadkelayeh ...
... a Chemical Engineer and self-taught artist whose journey uniquely bridges the realms of science, sustainability, and creativity. With a PhD in Process Engineering from Memorial University, I specialize in Process Optimization, Project Management, and Sustainable Waste and Biomass Valorization. My research has focused on innovative green technologies, including supercritical CO2 extraction, transforming shrimp waste into valuable products for nutraceutical and medical applications.
Professionally, I have led diverse projects integrating clean technologies into wastewater treatment and other industries, collaborating across disciplines such as biochemistry, ocean sciences, and functional foods. As a licensed Professional Engineer and an active member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists, I am passionate about advancing sustainable engineering practices and fostering groundbreaking solutions to address environmental challenges.
In 2018, a move to Newfoundland marked the beginning of a new chapter, reigniting my childhood passion for art. Enchanted by the province’s stunning landscapes and peaceful seascapes, I turned to painting during the solitude of the COVID-19 pandemic. Working with oil and acrylics, I create artworks inspired by Newfoundland’s sunsets, rugged coastlines, and the intricate dance of light and colour in nature. My art captures the tranquility and beauty of the natural world, inviting viewers to pause and connect.
My artistic journey has included participation in local art shows and events, culminating in the honour of being featured in a 2025 exhibition hosted by the City of St. John’s. My creative process is deeply personal, drawing from moments spent exploring Newfoundland’s breathtaking environment, translating these experiences into works that evoke calm and inspiration.
Whether through engineering or art, my work is driven by a commitment to innovation, sustainability, and meaningful connection. Together, these pursuits reflect my belief that science and creativity can harmonize to foster a greener, more reflective, and interconnected world.
